At the beginning of December, we attended the Crawford County 4-H banquet for the last time as Lucky Liberty members. The club has had so many kids move, graduate, and lose interest that it got to be so small that it was almost impossible to conduct club busy. (Lucky Liberty was the 4-H club I was in when I was younger.) At the banquet and awards program, Haley was awarded a county certificate for her achievements in photography. Both Haley and Katy received their next merit pin and pins for their respective years of being in 4-H. This September at the close of the old 4-H year, we moved our membership to the Walnut Wonder Worker 4-H club where the girls already had a lot of friends. We have already been busy with fund raisers, parties and meetings. Haley was elected to be club secretary and Katy was elected to be club historian. Kacey cannot 'officially' join until April when she turns 7.
The first week of December also marked the beginning of the middle school league basketball tournament. Haley's team eventually placed 3rd in the tournament Dec. 17th. The foul weather played havoc with their playoffs, but they finally got it played out. Katy and Kacey also wrapped up their Saturday morning recreation league basketball season on Dec. 13th. Katy's age plays actual games and her team did very well. Kacey's age is just instructional with a few 'scrimmages' planned at the end. She really enjoyed herself, and David and I have never laughed more watching all the girls play! :-)
The rest of the month as been a whirlwind of Christmas music concerts, Trinity Lutheran youth group caroling and 'adopt a family' for Christmas activities, and dance classes. I have continued to battle a staph infection in both eyes. Some days it is fine, on others, I am swollen up and look liked I have gone a few round with Rocky, and still others it looks like I have been standing in a smoking grass fire. On a good note, I finally graduated from Pittsburg State University on Friday, Dec. 19, with my master's degree. I now have a masters in teaching with emphasis in ESOL (English Speakers of Other Languages). I am thrilled to be done, but sitting there at graduation kept thinking that I will miss being on the 'student' side of education. I will probably eventually go back for more when the girls are older and the risk of missing their activities is less!!!!
David is enjoying his new job at Parsons High School so much. It was a very hard move for him to make, leaving Liberal after two years of developing relationships, but it sure is nice having him on the Kansas pay scale of things. He says that he gets to school, the bell rings, his day starts, and...BAM...next thing he knows, it is time to leave for the day. It was a trying year for him in football, he was just an assistant and coached the O line. (He has been on the defensive side of the ball for about 16 years.) He just learned this month, that they did some internal shuffling and he was asked to be the defensive coordinator for next football season. HE WAS THRILLED!! He has also begun another year of coaching for the Joplin Crusaders. The Crusaders are a semi-pro football team based out of Joplin. This is his 5th year with them. He has helped guide them to back to back CFL league champs.
We are all looking forward to Christmas and Christmas break. (I think David and I are more looking forward to the break, than the actual Christmas holiday part of it.) As the girls get older, their lists for Santa get more and more high dollar. I am amazed at all the nifty and technological toys that are available for kids. I remember being enthralled with an Etch-A-Sketch and thought a Slinky was the coolest!!!
We wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year. May God bless and keep each of you in good health and spirits in 2009.
(This post is probably going to be the longest, since it was my first. I plan to post about once a month, unless I have something to really brag about!!! :-) When momma is proud, she does like to share!! Please do the same. I love hearing from others!!!)
